Knights were as they were since the beginning. They never changed even for a bit and everything would be fine and dandy, if other vocations wouldn't change update after update. Whats happening now, is ridiculous. The difference between a knight and other vocations representatives is enormous. 2 days ago, I've made a test to check what the difference is exactly:
First, I checked my knight (131, 107/106, sov/mms/dh/mpa/gl/boh) at two places: Tar pit tomb, for the variety of different monsters, then hydras:
results:
Tar pit tomb - average 82 hitpoints per round delivered to monsters, 2 bps uh used, 3000 loot (- 3000 income), 45k exp.
Hydras - average 43 hitpoints per round delivered, 2 bps uh used, no loot as I couldn't take even one down (they heal to fast for my damages). I used 2 ice rapiers at hydras to check how it's going (each worth 3k which means half a bp sd), first damaged for 154, second one for 83 (sic!).
Then, I used my druid (lvl 44, mlvl 65, crown set, leather boots, ds, ss) at tar pit tomb to check how is he doing, I used exori vis + tempest rod. I asked my friend (lvl 130 sorcerer ml 75~ Blue robe/gl/sov /mms/dh/boh)to solo hydras for this test:

Tar pit tomb - average 324 hitpoints per round delivered, 7 bps mana used, 3400 loot(-2600 income), 48k exp.
Hydras - he killed only 3 for the test, average damage delivered (hard to count exactly as the numbers were flying to fast) c.a. 480 per round, 1 bp mana used, average time to take hydra down - 15 seconds.
I didn't test a pala but as far as I've seen, they are definitelly closer to knights rather then to sorcs/druids, but the mana change at least gave them the possibility to heal cheaper and to use the spells they have cheaper and more effectively. Unfortunatelly their spears are breaking now, and thats a bit of a nerf towards palas.
Now the test showed one thing: Knights suck big time.
The survivability of a knight isn't that good anymore, as in ventrillo times, everyone can be killed easilly, and since knights rush straight to the middle of the battle, they are the most often killed vocation. In solo p2p, knights suck even more. Knight can't kill another character even twice smaller, if the person beying chased puts his shield/full def on (even a druid/sorc if hes got about 28-30 shielding and mms/ds), not to mention he can't even hit a sorc/druid as in case of trouble they just put gran hur on, and they're far away 10 seconds later.
In pvm, knight isn't so easy to be kept alive eighter, as every lag can make you miss uh (remember, that a knight can't spamm a hotkey to be healed), and in a real troubling situation, he is much less flexible then other vocs (no magic wall, exura vita, invisibility, utani gran hur, and so on). Knights hps really aren't that much, as they can be dealt with real fast anyway, and the rune healing doesn't allow us to regain health as efficiently as other vocs do. Besides, it's only 5 hps/lvl more then pally, pally got 10 mps per level more though.
